A truck carrying 45,000 pounds of bottled water crashed and rolled over Wednesday on a highway in south Connecticut.
The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes of Interstate-91 near North Haven.
The driver of the truck was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries, though their condition is currently unknown.
Photos shared by the North Haven Fire Department show the truck and trailer on its side, with a large puncture on the top of the trailer. The fire department said the trailer would need to be unloaded before the entire rig could be removed safely from the road.
A small diesel spill also occurred as a result of the incident but was contained in the truck’s tanks. The fire department was awaiting a crew from the state’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to pump the fuel out prior to the truck’s removal.
“Please avoid the area for the next couple hours until cleared up,” the fire department said.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation and state police are investigating the crash.
