A 61-year-old man sleeping under a box truck parked on a Bronx street was killed early Thursday when the driver pulled out of the spot, not knowing anyone was beneath the vehicle, police said.
The victim was run over by the Hino 338 truck on Coster St. near Randall Ave. in Hunts Point at about 7:15 a.m., cops said.
Medics rushed him to Lincoln Hospital, where he died from massive injuries to his head and chest. His name was not immediately released.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene and faced no immediate charges.
“The guy was in not so good condition,” a worker in the area who gave his name as Omar said of the devastated truck driver. “Of course it wasn’t his fault, but you know it’s really hard knowing that by your accident a man died. It could happen with anybody. Anybody.”
“Nobody checks under their car [to see] if someone is there,” added Omar, 53, who was told by cops they believe the victim was homeless.

One neighbor said he often sees people sleeping on the street.
“In this area, in this block especially,” said the 55-year-old resident who did not give his name said, referring to a. “That’s common for Hunts Point.”
