A man riding an electric scooter fatally shot a 45-year-old man just steps from the victim’s Brighton Beach apartment, police said Saturday.
Elijah Scott was outside an apartment building on Brighton 12th St. near Oceanview Ave. just before 10 p.m. Friday when an unidentified gunman opened fire, hitting him multiple times, cops said.
A neighbor who lives next to Scott’s apartment said she was shocked to hear the news of the incident and that she had seen him with another woman leaving the building earlier Friday evening. She also said she had no idea Scott was 45, feeling he looked much younger than that.
“Of course it is scary to learn,” she said. “You know, I live here 30 years, never something like this. I did not expect it.”

EMS rushed Scott to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, but he couldn’t be saved.
Scott lived down the block from where he was fatally shot, police said.
Friends of Scott set up a small candlelit memorial across the street from the building. One friend described Scott as “a loving guy.”
The gunman sped off down Brighton 12th St. on the electric scooter. No arrests have been made.

Scott had a criminal record with at least eight arrests for assault, weapons possession, possession of stolen property, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police sources said.
On Saturday, cops were scouring the area for surveillance footage that could help them identify the gunman.
The fatal shooting comes as police celebrated a 23% drop in shootings for the first three months of the year compared to the same period last year, from 182 incidents down to 140.
